Ideas Well Done - Overview

Describe Ideas Well Done, what is it you do best?

We create products, often new and unique products for manufacturers. I think we do all aspects of product development well, but what we do best is develop ideas (ideation). We like to work on what interests us, so we often will decide on a product that is needed, then develop it, license it, and take it to market through manufacturers we know.

Do you work on projects other people bring to you as well?

Oh yes, we do some really interesting projects with manufacturers and with food service chains, where we have a lot of expertise. We also occasionally work with individuals who have great ideas and help them get product to market.

Do you develop product for markets outside of food services?

Absolutely. If you think about it, many things are connected. Take the example of hand-sanitation. The problem of hand washing, sanitizing, and protection doesn’t limit itself to food service. We may have first encountered it there as part of our background and experience. But it is a problem that carries over to labs, bathrooms, and health care.

Customers sometimes try to put you into little boxes and say, “Well, you’ve worked on steamers, so we’d like to work with you because we want a “Steamer,” or “we’d like to work with you but we don’t need a steamer right now, so we’ll call you when we do.” But it's not about steamers; it's about problem solving and creation with a product design solution.

We’ll take a product idea that might originally be rooted in food service, and look to where we can cross over to other marketplaces. The connections are made by the product, or what drives the need for the product.

Who is the rest of the Ideas Well Done Team, and what are your capabilities?

The team at Ideas Well Done includes people with backgrounds in engineering, project management, fabrication, prototyping, research and marketing. Everyone collaborates and presents individual strengths to the team process. The primary attributes we look for in a team member are curiosity, and a desire to try new things.

We have a 5,000 square foot lab, model shop, and testing facility where we have the capability to support the full product design and development process. We do our own prototype creation, engineering, 3D modeling, prototyping and testing. We create engineering, design, materials and manufacturing specifications. We take a concept from initial idea all the way to full manufacturing documentation. Last year we added rapid prototyping machinery for parts creation.
